AI Visibility Gets Easier to See
The main weather system today is Google Search Console's generative AI performance report appearing more broadly. Search Engine Roundtable says it is seeing the report live across roughly 25 checked profiles, while Google has not yet made a fresh public rollout announcement. The report shows AI impressions, pages, countries, devices, and dates, but still leaves out the two numbers site owners actually care about most: clicks and queries.
Google's official Search Central post from June framed these reports as a separate view for visibility in AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover, initially rolling them out to a subset of websites for testing and feedback. That matches today's pattern: useful visibility data, still incomplete business data.
The Catch: Impressions Are Not Visits
Search Engine Journal has been warning that these AI reports can flatter performance. An AI impression means your page appeared somewhere in an AI feature. It does not mean someone visited your site, bought something, filled out a form, or even saw your link clearly. SEJ also notes that AI Overview positioning can distort average ranking metrics, making reports look healthier than real traffic or revenue.
Calm Rankings, Busy Tooling
Ranking weather is calm: today's partial score is 4.1/10, and the last two weeks have stayed in the normal range after July's hotter stretch. Search Engine Land's last 24-48 hours were more about workflow than ranking shock: stronger SEO testing methods, AI-era link building skepticism, Google Ads and Analytics AI assistants, and a Merchant Center incident that retailers should watch if product listings matter to sales.
What to Do
Check Search Console for the new AI report, but do not celebrate impressions alone. Compare AI visibility against organic clicks, leads, sales, and first-party analytics. If traffic is flat or falling while impressions rise, the fog is not lifting yet.
