EEA Search Gets Rearranged
The biggest weather system is not a ranking storm, it is a layout shift. Google Search Central added documentation on September 8 explaining regional Search features, including aggregator units, supplier units, and carousels for hotels, flights, ground transportation, products, jobs, and other verticals in specific regions. For site owners, that means visibility may depend more on the type of business you are, where you operate, and whether you qualify for the new units.
Search Engine Journal reported today, September 9, that Google has rolled out redesigned Search results across the European Economic Area, with comparison services and direct suppliers getting separate placements for certain commercial searches. Search Engine Land also covered Google’s sharp complaint that the Digital Markets Act changes reduce Search quality in Europe. The practical takeaway: travel, shopping, and local commerce brands in Europe should check live results, not just rankings, because the page itself may now favor different intermediaries.
AI Answers Keep Spreading
Search Engine Roundtable flagged fresh data today showing People Also Ask results are now being answered by AI Overviews at nearly total coverage in the tracked sample. That matters because informational clicks can get squeezed when Google answers follow-up questions directly on the results page.
There was also a short-lived Search Console indexing report blip yesterday, confirmed by Google’s John Mueller as resolved quickly. If pages briefly looked “Crawled - currently not indexed,” do not panic first. Recheck before making technical changes.
Forecast
Volatility is cooling, with today’s partial score at 3.3/10 after several normal days. The sky is mostly calm, but the surface of Google is changing.
What to Do
- Check how your money pages look in real Search results, not only rank trackers.
- For local and ecommerce sites, keep business data, feeds, reviews, and structured data clean.
- Do not mass-produce thin pages. Old low-value programmatic SEO can slow recovery.
