Google Search Keeps Reshaping the SERP
The most concrete Search change is in Europe. Search Engine Roundtable spotted Google’s Ecosystem carousel live for weather, translation, sports, and finance-style queries. Google’s own Search Central documentation says this carousel can show additional source sites and that eligible providers in the EEA can express interest, with no special structured data required. For publishers in those verticals, this is worth checking now because it can create another doorway into your site from Google’s answer-style results.
AI Search Measurement Is Still Messy
The AI search fog is thicker than the ranking fog. Search Engine Land reported on September 14 that Google is testing an AI Contribution pilot in Search Console, paying some publishers when their content significantly contributes to AI Mode, AI Overviews, or Gemini responses. That sounds promising, but Search Engine Journal also highlighted that Search Console’s AI reporting still has a big measurement problem: impressions and positions are being squeezed into old-style search metrics that do not cleanly explain whether users actually saw your link.
