Search Engine Roundtable also reported heavy chatter around a July 24 weekend shakeup, with multiple tracking tools and site owners seeing traffic swings.
Search Console Fog
Today's most practical issue is a Search Console page indexing report delay. Search Engine Roundtable says the report has been stuck in broad snapshots since June, with only a few unique data points across long stretches. That means recent fixes, new pages, or cleanup work may look invisible for longer than usual. Do not assume Google failed to index your changes just because the report is stale. Cross-check with URL Inspection, server logs, and actual search visibility.
Reviews and AI Content Under the Microscope
Google's review snippet rules were updated on July 24 to say sites should not use fake reviews or undisclosed incentivized reviews in visible content or structured data. Search Engine Journal and Search Engine Roundtable both flagged the manual action risk, and Google's own documentation now spells out the rule. If reviews power your star ratings, disclose incentives clearly and remove anything not based on a real experience.
Two technical reminders also broke through today: Search Engine Journal reported that shared Claude chats exposed the old robots.txt is not noindex problem, and another test challenged the myth that Google only renders JavaScript for five seconds. Translation: do not block pages you need Google to read for noindex, and do not hide key content behind slow, fragile scripts.
