The visible symptom is a sudden drop in AI-related impressions, but Google says it is a logging issue, not an actual loss of visibility in Search. AI Search Keeps Getting Messier
Search Engine Journal added a useful wrinkle: normal Search Console query reports may now include weird AI follow-up fragments like “yes,” “what about,” or other conversational scraps, because AI Mode follow-ups can be counted like new queries. For site owners, that means some odd-looking queries may not be spam or bots. They may be people talking to Google’s AI while your page is cited somewhere in the answer.
Separately, Google paused a small test that generated AI images inside AI Overviews for recipe searches after creator backlash. That matters because AI-generated instructions can swallow traffic and blur who actually made the content. Recipe, how-to, and visual publishers should keep watching this closely.
